"He must've been a great warrior." - Taran
Taran (voiced by Grant Bardsley) is an assisstant pig-keeper, and the main protagonist in The Black Cauldron, and the novel series, The Chronicles of Prydain. He is headstrong, and genuinely brave if a bit foolhardy and scared at times, with a great deal of determination to prove his worth to the world. He has the youthful foolishness and recklessness fitting for his age, but proves resourceful and loyal to his friends, going so far as to give up a magic sword that would cement his future as a famous warrior known to the world, in order to bring back a friend who had performed a heroic sacrifice. Taran's allies include the Princess Elionwy, the Minstral King Fflewddur Fflam, a michevious creature named Gurgi, and Doli, a member of the Fair Folk. In the original books, when Taran was a baby he was found by Dallben, in the barren remains of a battle field, and taken in to be raised as a farmer and Assistant Pig-Keeper for Hen Wen. After several adventures, which help Taran to grow and become and adult, learning more about himself, and facing the Death-Lord Arawn, Taran eventually becomes High King, and marries Princess Eilonwy, with the sword, Dyrnwyn in hand.
