Scarecrow (performed by the late Ray Bolger) is the first traveling companion of Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz. The Scarecrow really had one job, scaring crows, but didn't do so well, he doesn't even know how he can talk, because he didn't have a brain. If the scarecrow had a brain, he could do lot of thinking on problems, and find solutions. When Dorothy told him he was going to see The Wizard of Oz himself, he asked to come believing he might get a brain. So after helping her escape traps with tow other friends, The Tin Man, and The Cowardly Lion, defeat The Wicked Witch of The West, and seeing the Wizard's true self, he was mad at first until he got a diploma, and suddenly gained a great amount of knowledge finally, getting what he wanted, a brain. When the Wizard had to go, Scarecrow was made the headman, until he returned.
