Rita (voiced by Bernadette Peters) and Runt (voiced by Frank Welker) are two homeless animals from Animanics who almost always appear together.
Rita is a female cat who is independent, sarcastic, cold, intelligent and aloof. However, this is a front masking a soft side of her who longs for affection.
Runt is a dim-witted dog who once thought Rita was a dog. This is used to Rita's advange since he would have behaved badly towards other cats. But dispite his simple mind, he has a great affection for Rita.

- Xion hopes that Rita and Runt will find a home that will make them happy. Eventually, these two become Mellissa's pets.
