Lyman Banner (voiced by Wayne Grayson) is a teacher at Duel Academy who teaches alchemy and is the headmaster of the Slifer Red dorm. Later on in the series, he is revealed to be one of the 7 Shadow Riders. Before his arrival to Duel Academy, Banner discovered an ancient tomb that held the first Duel Monster cards. But he was cursed upon entering the tomb. With no other way to save himself, he created a homunculus and placed his soul within it, and called himself Amnael. He joined the Shadow Riders in order to aquire the 3 Sacred Beast cards to save himself. It is also revealed that Banner was the one who lead Atticus Rhodes to the abandoned dorm. As Amnael, he dueled and defeated Alexis Rhodes and Chazz Princeton. But he was defeated by Jaden. Before turning into a pile of dust, Banner gave Jaden his shadow charm and the card Sabatiel The Philosopher's Stone." From then on, his soul resides within the body of his pet cat Pharaoh, who swallowed his soul.
