King Sombra (voiced by Jim Miller) is the main antagonist of MLP: Friendship is Magic: The Crystal Empire. It is known in legend that he was a tyrannical ruler of the Crystal Empire. Before he was banished to the Arctic after being defeated by Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, he placed a curse on the Empire, making it vanish for 1,000 years. When the Crystal Empire returned, so did King Sombra. Shining Armor, and Princess Cadence had to defend the Crystal Empire from his return. He was defeated when Twilight Sparkle found the Crystal Heart, and the Crystal Ponies used it to repel him.

- King Sombra will become Jeffrey and Jaden's enemy in Jeffrey, Jaden & Friends' Storm Adventures of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - The Crystal Empire.
- Winnie the Pooh will first meet King Sombra in Jeffrey, Pooh & Friends' Storm Adventures of Wild Wild West.
- In the Thunderbolts Adventure Series, Courtney has half of King Sombra's darkness in her heart which can be impossible to remove it. In fact, she states that his darkness is like a parasite to her.
- In "The Beginning of The End", King Sombra left the Heylin Empire to build his own evil empire known as King Sombra's Brotherhood and conquer Equestria and the world by his own because he didn't trust Grogar and Anubis' methods, just like Charles Muntz didn't trust Set's methods.
