King Harold (voiced by John Cleese) is Fiona's father and the former ruler of the Kingdom of Far Far Away. Unlike his wife Queen Lillian, Harold opposed Shrek and Fiona's marriage, mainly because of the deal that he and Fairy Godmother made that her son Prince Charming would marry Fiona. Harold hired Puss in Boots to kill Shrek, but it failed. Later, Harold was ordered by the Fairy Godmother to put a magical love potion into Fiona's tea so she can kiss Charming and love him. But, Harold swapped the tea with Fiona and he drank the potion, upon realizing that Fiona's happiness was more important to him. The Fairy Godmother tried to cast a spell on Shrek, but Harold dived in front of Shrek, saving Shrek, and was turned back into his true form: a frog.
