Aragorn II Elessar (played by Viggo Mortensen in Peter Jackson version, voiced by John Hurt in Bakshi and voiced by Theodore Bikel in Rankin/Bass) is the King of Gondor, and one of the main Characters in The Lord of The Rings. Aragorn is the son of Arathorn, and descendant to Isildur, the man who defeated Sauron. Aragorn lost his father to an attack from Orcs, and was raised by the Elvin King, Elrod. He eventually left to become the leader of the rangers, and called himself Strider. The Elves call him Elessar, but his true name is Aragorn. He met Arwen, a half elf, while helping Frodo after being struck with a Morgal Blade. Eventually he helps Frodo on his quest to destroy The One Ring, along with three other Hobbits, Samwise Gamgee, plus Merry and Pippin, as well as Gandalf The Grey Wizard, Boromir of Gondor, The Elf Legolas, and The Dwarf Gimli. However, after the fellowship broke when Frodo, and Samwise left for Mordor on there own. Aragorn, along with Legolas, and Gimli, went out to find Merry and Pippin. The trio reunites with Gandalf, now Gandalf the White, and seek out to protect Middle-Earth from Sauron, and The Nazgul. Eventually, Aragorn finds a cavern belonging the Dead of old. He gains there trust, and battles with them to win The Pelanor Fields. Aragorn leads the army of Gondor to Mordor, and fight while Frodo heads to Mount Doom. The Battle is won and he is made King of Gondor in The Forth Age of Middle Earth. Aragorn is dubbed King Elessar, and marries Arwen. Aragorn is a powerful ruler, but very kind and wise.
